Descriptive rolls of rejected recruits, 1862-1865.

The adjutant general of the Commonwealth, as executive administrator of the state's Military Establishment, has been responsible for maintaining and reporting data concerning militia strength; these activities were intensified during the Civil War. These rolls describe recruits rejected (i.e., discharged) at that time, with reasons for rejection. These reasons vary, but characteristically involve desertion, disability, or transfer to another branch of service. Inside the front cover is a separate paper booklet entitled: List of Colonel Day's discharges of rejected recruits, July-December 1862. This volume lists similar information arranged alphabetically by recruit on a monthly basis.
